Jamnagar

Jamnagar Jamnagar oversees a crucial segment of India’s western seaboard, where the Gulf of Kutch meets the Arabian Sea. The coastline here is dotted with islands, coral reefs, and intricate tidal flats, making navigation particularly demanding for mariners. This region is significant for its ports, oil terminals, fishing harbours, and industrial shipping, with vessels constantly moving through narrow channels and offshore routes. The Directorate of Lighthouses and Lightships, Jamnagar, is responsible for ensuring that ships and boats operating in these complex waters can navigate safely. The Directorate manages a wide range of Aids to Navigation — from traditional lighthouses to modern electronic systems — strategically installed to assist in avoiding hazards and ensuring smooth passage for all types of marine traffic.Operating as part of the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the Jamnagar Directorate plays a vital role in supporting safe navigation in one of India’s most challenging coastal zones.
