Piram Island is approachable by a boat from Ghogha Port. The Lighthouse is about 1.5 Km from the
landing point. The Researchers claim to have found Jurassic age evidences on this Island.

Piram Island before independence was part of Bhavnagar State who had built a bastion on South
West corner of the island to keep watch on the maritime activities in the region. The British realized
the importance of the location and built a 24m high circular masonry Lighthouse tower on the
bastion in 1864-65. A wick lamp with a catadioptric optic in the lantern house, supplied by M/s
Chance Brothers, Birmingham was installed on the tower. The light started functioning in November
1865. The Custom Supervisor, Ghogha regularly visited the station for checking. The equipment was
replaced by a 4 order dioptric optic in 1895

The equipment got damaged in a fire in 1928 and was replaced by DA gas flasher in 1930. In the
year 1965, the height of the tower was extended up to 27m and the lighting equipment, supplied by
M/s. B.B.T., Paris was installed. A baffle wall was constructed and fog signal vibrators and sound
horns, also supplied by BBT were installed. The station was commissioned in September 1968. The
fog signal service was withdrawn subsequently in 1987. The DA gas emergency source was
converted to Battery operated Halogen lamp in February 1994 and the direct drive was introduced
in June 1996. The main light 1500W 110V incandescent lamp and emergency light sources were
replaced by cluster of three 70W 230V Metal Halide lamps with solar powered batteries in
November 2003. A Racon with code 'B' was installed in January 2000.
