    Dolphin's Nose is a hill in Visakhapatnam between Yarada and Gangavaram Port. The hill is named Dolphin's Nose because it resembles a dolphin's nose. It is a conspicuous land mark in Visakhapatnam. It is connected by rail up to Visakhapatnam Railway Station and it is situated nearly 25 Kms from Railway Station and nearly 30 Kms from Airport. Dolphin's nose is a huge rocky head land which is 174 meters high and 358 meters above sea level. The powerful beacon of the light house set on this rock at sea directs ships up to 32 NM. 

    Before independence, the British Army used it as a Military Camp. There is a Hindu Temple, a Church, and a Mosque on a nearby hill. In 1804 British and French forces fought the Battle of Vizagapatam near this hill. 

    Lighthouse is made up of Square Masonry Tower of 19 Mtr. Height with Black and white colour band. It is equipped with BBT Make 375 mm 3rd order small revolving optic. The construction of the lighthouse commenced during the 19th century with the aim of ensuring the safe transit of British ships along the East Coast of India. The Lighthouse was commissioned and inaugurated by Late. Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, Hon’ble Minister of Transport and Communication on 15/06/1957. The lighthouse on this hill guides ships to enter Visakhapatnam Port. 

    The lighthouse currently uses 32 M Luminous with geographical range of 31 NM. The main Light of this lighthouse comprising 3 Nos of Main Lamp 150W/230V MH Lamp. Mercury float pedestal with dual stepper motor 40 Kg-cm direct drive. Its characteristic is FL.W. 10 Sec (Fl 0.33 Sec. Ec9.67 Sec.). Dolphins Nose lighthouse is an attractive tourist spot of Visakhapatnam. Nearly 200 people visits this lighthouse   every day.
